One Word, Big Impact
Reinsurance is, in essence, insurance for insurance companies. Just as we encourage policyholders to choose coverage beyond the minimum to avoid unexpected gaps, we also secure more than the minimum recommended reinsurance for our company.
Highly rated and creditworthy
Reinsurance guarantees we have the financial strength to pay claims, sustain and grow our business, and uphold our commitment to the policyholders who rely on us to safeguard their most valuable assets—their homes and families.
We work with multiple reinsurers, all of which are highly rated and creditworthy, having no less than an "A- (Excellent)" rating by AM Best to help pay for losses caused by a major disaster.
What does this mean to you? American Integrity has enough reinsurance to prepare for storms of the magnitude of 1992’s Hurricane Andrew, or a multiple storm hurricane season like the unprecedented four-hurricane season Florida experienced in 2004.
How does your company compare?
Here are a few questions you should ask when trying to decide if your insurance company has adequate reinsurance:
Your agent can help you understand whether the company could risk losing a significant portion of its surplus if multiple storms hit in a single year, like those in 2004. Any insurance company should be financially strong enough to withstand a loss equivalent to that year’s storms. In fact, a few companies—such as American Integrity—are positioned to cover claims from multiple hurricane seasons.
Reinsurance companies will have an A.M. Best Rating to indicate their ability to pay claims. Make sure your insurance company has partnered with highly rated companies with ratings like A-, A or A+.
In 2004, Florida was hit by four hurricanes in one season. Make sure your insurance company has enough coverage to handle multiple events. They might have fantastic coverage for the first hurricane, but if another one hits and they didn’t purchase an adequate amount for a second or third event, this could be a problem.
Reinsurance coverage is substantial—often so large that multiple reinsurers must join together to form a single policy. If an insurance company relies on too few reinsurers, it concentrates its risk among a limited group of partners. If one of those reinsurance companies decides not to participate come renewal time, the insurance company will be left scrambling to find a new partner for a large portion.
